Jesús has a BA in Translation and Interpreting and a BA in Chinese Studies from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). He completed a postgraduate degree in Translation and Information Technologies (UAB), and he holds two PhDs in Translation Studies (UAB, 2010; Hong Kong Baptist University, 2015). He has been working in the translation industry as a translator, reviewer and project manager since 2000, both in the private and public sectors. He lived in China over a period of six years studying, teaching and conducting research in the field of translation and working as a consultant for Spanish translation companies and universities. He speaks Catalan, Spanish, English, and Chinese. He loves Thai food, follows a Paleo lifestyle and dances Lindy Hop.
Originally from New York City, Catherine has lived in Spain since 2009. She has a B.A. in Romance Languages and Literature (Carleton College), an M.A. in the History and Culture of Food (University of Barcelona), and a Ph.D. in Food and Nutrition, specializing in Food Anthropology (University of Barcelona). She is fluent in Spanish and also speaks French, Catalan, Italian, and some Hebrew. She has worked in translation and editing since 2010, and also has several years of experience as a language arts teacher, academic program manager, food educator, and researcher. She loves cooking and baking, film, reading, painting, and exploring both cities and nature on foot.
Mayka has a BA in English Studies (URV), an MA in Audiovisual Translation (UAB) and an MA in Screenwriting (UNIR), which allowed her to start in the translation world in an important dubbing studio in Barcelona, where she learnt the insights of script translation. She also has experience in teaching and creating digital content. As a freelancer, she’s translated and subtitled various documentaries and short films. She’s passionate about cinema, literature, animals and coffee, and follows a vegan lifestyle.
A native bilingual in (American) English and (Latin American) Spanish, Eva leads QuickSilver’s Project Managers.Eva studied Catalan, French, and Quechua as part of her magna cum laude BA in Comparative Literature and Linguistics at Columbia University. She has 10 years of experience editing scientific articles, 5 years working for bilingual human rights organizations, 4 years organizing and managing literary publishing operations, 3 years translating, and a partridge in a pear tree. Eva moved to Barcelona in 2014 for an MA in Political Philosophy from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and has lived here ever since.
Floriane, or Flor as she likes to be called, is a French translator from Marseille who has lived in Barcelona since 2014. Bilingual in French and Latin American Spanish, she specialized in Río de la Plata Spanish for the literary translation studies of her MA but is fond of all the language variants of the Spanish-speaking countries. She also speaks fluent English and knows some Catalan, Italian and Dutch. She has a BA in Law and a BA in Spanish Studies from the Sorbonne in Paris. She has been working as a translator, reviewer and language coordinator since 2014. In her free time, Flor loves reading, traveling, writing, singing and spending time with her beautiful son.
Carina, a native English speaker from the United States, has been involved in Barcelona’s translation community for the past five years and has experience working at two of its leading translation agencies. Her translation and interpretation training comes from the University of Vic, which she credits for forcing her to speak Catalan and go on to earn her Level D Catalan certification (Level C2 in the Common European Framework, which she also has in Spanish). She is an active member of the Mediterranean Editors and Translators Association, regularly participates in translation training workshops, and is especially interested in research on new technologies applied to translation.
Verónica heads the QuickSilver audiovisual team. She has a BA in Translation and Interpreting from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She teaches MA in Audiovisual Translation at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and a subtitling course at the MA in Visual Anthropology at the Universitat de Barcelona. As a freelance translator, she translated and subtitled hundreds of television series, films and documentaries for clients such as Warner Bros, Paramount, Fox, Sony, Disney, and National Geographic. She’s currently writing a PhD thesis on Audiovisual Translation.
Ángela Hernández Hervás
Ángela works at the Audiovisual Department as translator and reviewer. She studied Translation at the Universidad de Granada, and then completed an MA on Audiovisual Translation at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She’s a film enthusiast and has done courses on screenwriting, cinematographic language and film genres.
Hailing from Austria, Yvonne has lived and worked in Spain since 2003. She obtained her degree, in Legal and Economic translation, at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona before going on to work as a translator and knowledge engineer. She speaks German, Spanish and English fluently, and is working on her Catalan.
