Consecutive interpretation

In consecutive interpretation (CI), the interpreter intersperses the speaker’s discourse with translations of his words. The speech is divided into segments; when the speaker pauses or finishes speaking, the interpreter renders a portion of the message or the entire message in the target language. There are two forms of CI: “short CI” and “long CI”. In short CI, the interpreter relies on memory, each message segment being brief enough to memorize. In long CI, the interpreter is already familiar with the content of the speech.Type of event: Conferences with small audiences, work meetings, training sessions.PROS: No audio equipment needed. Only one interpreter.CONS: Doubles the speech length.
