Editing and copywriting

In an increasingly globalised world, communicating your message to local markets is more important than ever. The quality of your translated content — whether in your webpage, marketing collateral or legal documentation — is paramount. It speaks volumes for your own commitment to quality, and respect for local cultures. Sloppy, unclear or inaccurate communication will undermine your business. Where to find decent editing and copywriting services?

Our in‑house editors will take your text from good to great!

QuickSilver Translate helps companies create or adapt their sales materials and websites to different linguistic areas. And we do this for all needs (marketing, technical, journalistic, etc.). We take care of copywriting, translating, editing or reviewing any type of document, using our pool of highly qualified professional editors and linguists. Choose between our Editing Premium or Editing Basic (proofreading) services:

Editing Basic

We check and correct spelling, punctuation, capitalisation, and grammatical errors (no stylistic changes). Editing Basic is recommended only for texts written by native or near-native speakers of the language, and/or for final review.

Editing Premium

A senior editor will assess your copy and make improvements in the following areas:

  • Correct spelling, punctuation, capitalisation, and grammar
  • Improvements to style and consistency
  • Improve the sentence structure, usage, and connotation
  • Paraphrasing and rewriting where necessary, to improve the text readability and impact
  • Use of Keywords (SEO)

Our editors will, of course be happy to adhere to the style guide of your choice. In addition, the formatting of references can be in accordance with the citation guide of your choice.

Translation Review

A translation review is an analysis of both source and target texts to check for accuracy in content, style, and tone. An all-too-common translation pitfall is to slip into what we call ‘translationese’. In the case of technical translation, accuracy is of course the most important factor. However, for marketing collateral it is fundamentally important to produce a text which has style, the appropriate tone, and reads as if it were written by a native speaker.

Translationese’ is when you sacrifice this clarity in order to reproduce the meaning of the original. Unfortunately, the result is often something which is grammatically correct, but not phrased in a way that a native speaker would use.

One small example illustrates this principle. In conversation, a native of the USA would always say that something cost ‘one-fifty’, but never that it cost ‘one-dollar-fifty-cents’. Now, the second option is perfectly correct, it is just totally unidiomatic. This is the sort of ‘mistake’ which an inadequate or inexperienced (or non-native) translator won’t notice, but any native speaker will recognise as classic translationese!

Editing for Academia — Get published!

We also offer a more advanced and detail-oriented editing service, tailored for academia. All our editors are degree-holding native speakers of English, or Spanish, with wide experience in both academia and business editing. Our premium editing service involves two different editors reviewing your manuscript.
