The best cities you should visit this summer to learn…Portuguese

Portuguese has developed for over 2000 years, since the 3rd century B.C. The Romans brought Portuguese with them when they arrived in the parts now known as Portugal and Spain. Modern Portuguese has around 800 words originating from Arabic.

At first, it was called Vulgar Latin or colloquial Latin from which all Roman languages evolved. In 1290 it was declared by the king of Portugal to call it Portuguese. Today’s Portuguese is an evolution of Galician-Portuguese (now two different languages). It is spoken in 10 countries including Portugal and Brazil.

Today increasingly more foreigners are learning Portuguese through the influence of the ever popular football and the striking no. of football stars rising from these countries. Why don’t you as well this summer?

Salvador

Salvador is the capital of the state of Bahia in Brazil. It has a warm overall climate. This city is known to have high rated private schools for Portuguese. Plus there are beaches, diving, and similar activities to keep you entertained during your vacation. You can visit historical monuments and place and trust me it has a lot of them.

Lisbon

Lisbon is the largest and the capital city of Portugal. It is a very beautiful city, full of colors. Many people recommend going there if you want to learn Portuguese. There’s ton of surfing and beach thing going on if you’re interested. You can do an electric bike tour of about any place in Lisbon from hills to downtown streets. There is even a bonus of food sampling of various restaurants included. It has some ancient Roman architecture which is fun to explore.

Rio de Janeiro

One of the most beautiful cities in the world. Almost all of the natives of Rio de Janeiro speak Portuguese. It is famous for Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. You have the bonus of learning in the good quality language schools dedicated to teaching here and practice in conversing with the people. If you time your trip well you might even get to see the great and famous Carnival.

Algarve

It is the southern-most region of continental Portugal. It has schools and centers for learning Portuguese for more than 25 years. So they have quite the experience. Algarve has many places for scenic beauty and of course beaches. You can go hiking and cycle on the islands. A trip here is more affordable than those in Brazil. Here you get to learn the more traditional way of speaking Portuguese.

Luanda

Luanda is the capital and largest city of Angola of Southern Africa. Portuguese is the official language of Angola. If you do not want to go to and South-American states but still want to learn Portuguese you are welcome at Luanda. Portuguese courses are becoming increasingly popular in Luanda.

We all know that no one travels to other countries and cities to learn new languages. And especially in summer, you’d want to enjoy life. As it is a capital, it is better built. There is a wildlife reserve you can tour, take pics and boast about it. Fortress of Sao Miguel is also another place to visit and the beaches.
