QuickSilver’s philosophy regarding confidentiality and data protection in translation:

Confidentiality in translation

By its very nature, the translation industry is concerned with confidentiality. Like doctors, lawyers and priests, translators are used to handling sensitive, private information. For this and other reasons, the translation industry has strict code of ethics which QuickSilver adheres to rigidly. The confidentiality of the documents and information we work with is of the highest importance to us.

As part of our ISO 9001:2000 certification, we guarantee confidentiality on every project we undertake. Like any agency, we work with our own staff linguists as well as freelance translators, all of whom sign a confidentiality agreement with QuickSilver.

Occasionally, a customer asks us to sign a further confidentiality agreement with them. This may mean that we are obliged to delete files once we have completed a project, which in turn means that we cannot use this translation to build a Translation Memory (TM) for the customer, and that they will therefore not enjoy all of the cost-savings associated with TM.

That said, we naturally understand that some particularly sensitive documents or information require a heightened guarantee of confidentiality. In fact, there is a growing movement amongst language service providers (LSP) towards extensive ‘pooling’ of TMs. QuickSilver does not participate in any such sharing of data, because we believe that the risk of information falling into the wrong hands is high. While we’re on the subject of security, all of our software and databases are, of course, password protected and regularly backed-up.
